Hi guys!! I'm so glad I've found you. I was so desperately in the dark for these whole 2 years of this competition.

I am in the reserve list in the group of 10 (or is it finally 8?) succesful candidates. Has anybody of you been called for an interview or medical exams? Do you know how long we are going to wait?

I really am in an akward position. You see, we are thinking of moving to another town, but then we think that this might be totally in vain, if we are to leave soon. And there are so many other things too... Anyway....

I wish the best of luck to all of you. I hope we'll meet soon somewhere in central Europe!

Soon can be four months from today, but also three years :-) The fact is that there is no specific timetable and/or typical plan.

My advise is to continue with your current plans and when they offer you a position (which could take some time since you have not yet been invited to an interview) you make your new plans.

Thanks for your reply VACH. It's nice to have some company at least. Waiting is not a very pleasant thing for some people (including me)... :P

I feel the same as you, booky. I would like to know, at least that all of us will get called at some point, so that I do not live in uncertainty. If I knew that, I wouldn then care, if it would take 3, 5 or 7 years to get called!

Anyway, I hope things will work out fine for all of us. It s sad that our Reserve List is the only one of the 3 parallel competitions (for Finnish and Dutch) that isn t divided in Merit Groups. It leaves space for all kind of indirect and unclear job offers and it s not so meritocratic as could be.

But let s be optimistic, we made it up to here and we hope for the best!

Hi VACH. Thanks again for your reply.

I think there is good ground for us to be optimistic. From what I have read in this forum I get the impression that it is more possible to be offered a post after succeeding in a competition than to be left without an offer. This is my impression and I certainly hope that it will not remain only an impression.

I hadn't noticed the lists of the Dutch and the Finnish competitions until you mentioned them. I was wondering about the division in groups too. Anyway, these two years that have passed since the competition started, I have heard a lot about whether things are meritocratic or not. Actually, at various points I was sure I would go no further in this process, because I had nothing more to help me apart from my studies and experience as a translator. But here I am, in the reserve list, so I guess that, after all, things are indeed meritocratic.

But there's no point now in asking ourselves too many questions. I think waiting is difficult as it is. We need patience and this can be hard sometimes.

Anyway, fingers crossed, I hope the time will come...

PS: I don't know if you can see my email address. Feel free to contact me anytime.
