Hi, girls,
Don 't worry, I haven 't forgotten you! I am in postponed vacation (Crete) after the change of my oral examination day and I don' t have internet here. I' m in the Internet cafe in Chania now!
The examination went really well as I have been calm and I answered almost all the questions. The selection board is very friendly and they will make you feel at ease, they know the candidates are nervous and they take it into account.
At first they asked me to present myself which is a good way to make a nice impression by highlighting your positive experiences. If they interrupt you, don 't worry, it' s due to the restricted time. Then they started asking me behavioral questions, like what would you do under pressure, tell us the way you work when you are given a translation from a really difficult client, could you live abroad. They made 4 such questions which all were more or less in the same direction: multicultural environments, working far from your country etc.
Then they asked me about the European policies and institutions: what do you know about the EU institutions (introductory question) and then based on my answer they interrupted me at some point to ask "tell us more about the assent procedure". I think it' s just what you mention, so don' t mention anything that you could not go into detail if asked. (but on the other hand, even if you can' t go into many details, it will be good that you had heard of it, so it' s up to you, I suppose). I have spoken for a long time and they let me, so the EU questions were 3. (introductory, assent procedure and Committee of the Regions). In general, they ask easy questions and it' s up to you to mention every detail you know, I think they ask more or less the same general questions to every candidate and they decide according to how many information he knows. But again, I can only tell from my own examination.
At last they asked me about translation, why did I choose it and how much I like it (of course they wanted reasoned answers based on my CV). What are the translation fields I have dealt with as a professional. what do I want to do in the future. Is there anything I haven' t done yet as far as education is concerned.
My examination lasted 30 minutes and of those the jury took the first 5 minutes by introducing themselves. So, it has been really quick.
I have to go shopping now, in general I would say they want to have a look on your attitude and not so much on the info you know.
I wish you all the best and Good Luck, stay calm, it 's the most important thing,
Results around mid-March they 've said!
Vach
